Turing Begins Construction of the ‘Gaggle Cluster,’ a Large GPU Cluster for AI Development InfrastructureThe largest scale proprietary GPU resource in Japan
Turing Inc. (Kashiwa City, Chiba; CEO: Issei Yamamoto; hereinafter “Turing”) announces the beginning of the ‘Gaggle Cluster’ series, a dedicated computing infrastructure for Large Language Models (LLMs) and multimodal models for achieving fully autonomous AI.
The first cluster, ‘Gaggle-Cluster-1’, will be equipped with 96 NVIDIA H100 GPUs and have a total computational power of 190 PFLOPS, making it the largest scale GPU computing infrastructure in Japan. The system is scheduled to begin operations in the first half of 2024.
Gaggle-Cluster-1 is composed of numerous GPU servers and maximizes inter-server communication bandwidth and storage speeds. This allows the cluster to function as a ‘single computer’, making it ideal for large-scale learning tasks. The distributed parallel learning technology allows for rapid and efficient training of models with very large parameters, such as LLMs.
The name ‘Gaggle Cluster’ was inspired by the image of geese flying together in the sky, symbolizing many GPUs working together to tackle large computational challenges.
Turing will accelerate the development of fully autonomous AI by leveraging the fast and scalable Gaggle Cluster and other cloud computing resources to develop its proprietary large-scale multimodal models.
Relationship Between LLM and Fully Autonomous Driving
Large Language Models (LLMs) are AI models that learn from large amounts of text data to generate human-like text and answer questions. Turing believes that fully autonomous driving requires an AI that understands the world at least as well as humans do, and is developing multimodal models such as LLMs to comprehend the world at a very high level through language.
