Turing  to Present at the 19th YANS Symposium with a Tutorial Lecture by Engineer Hidehisa Arai

Turing Inc. (Shinagawa, Tokyo, CEO: Issei Yamamoto, hereinafter “Turing”), a company dedicated to the development of fully autonomous vehicles using generative AI, is pleased to announce that our engineer Hidehisa Arai will present a tutorial lecture at the “19th YANS Symposium” to be held at Umeda Sky Building from September 4 to 6, 2024.

In this lecture, Hidehisa Arai, an engineer leading the research and development of world models and Vision Language Action (VLA) models at our company, will explain the mechanisms of foundational models that handle the three modalities of vision, language, and action, and introduce applications in autonomous driving.

Furthermore, our company is a Gold Sponsor of this symposium. In addition to the above-mentioned tutorial lecture, we are planning to exhibit at the sponsor booth and participate in sponsor sessions.

Tutorial Lecture Overview

Speaker:Hidehisa Arai
Title:The Two Major Trends in Generative AI and Autonomous Driving
Content:The related technologies of large language models (LLM) from the field of natural language processing and diffusion models from the field of image generation represent the two major trends in the current generative AI boom. Recently, research combining these technologies for applications such as robot operation has gained momentum, showing a broadening scope beyond just natural language processing and image generation. This tutorial will explain the mechanisms of foundational models that handle the three modalities of vision, language, and action, and introduce applications in autonomous driving.
Biography:After completing his master’s degree at the Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo in 2021, Hidehisa Arai worked as a machine learning engineer at Recruit Co., Ltd., where he developed recommendation systems and engaged in research and development of Vision & Language models. Since April 2024, he has been involved in research and development of world models and Vision Language Action (VLA) models at Turing Inc.

About YANS

YANS promotes academic research and technological development among young researchers and engineers in the fields of natural language processing, computational linguistics, and related areas. It provides a platform for mutual exchange and growth among participants, and encourages the application of the cultivated academic research and technological development achievements to real society. To contribute to the progress and development of these fields in both academia and industry, an annual research symposium is held.

About Turing Inc.

A startup dedicated to the development of fully autonomous vehicles. We are developing E2E (End-to-End) autonomous driving AI that makes all driving decisions such as steering, braking, and acceleration based solely on data obtained from cameras. By advancing the development of “generative AI” for sophisticated autonomous driving, “semiconductors” to operate AI on-board, and “autonomous driving systems” that integrate vehicles and AI, we aim to achieve full automation by 2030.
