Turing Inc. (Headquarters: Shinagawa, Tokyo; CEO: Issei Yamamoto; hereinafter "Turing") is pleased to announce the launch of "Gaggle Cluster," a dedicated computing platform for developing fully autonomous driving.

This computing platform was made possible through technical support provided by NTT PC Communications Incorporated (Headquarters: Minato, Tokyo; President: Junichi Kudo; hereafter "NTTPC"), support from other NTT DOCOMO group companies, and by funding from NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc (Headquarters: Minato, Tokyo; President: Jun Yasumoto; hereafter "NDV").

1. Key Features of "Gaggle Cluster"

"Gaggle Cluster" is Turing's dedicated computing platform, equipped with 96 NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Utilizing an NVIDIA InfiniBand/NDR400 network, it minimizes communication speed constraints between servers, a traditional bottleneck in large-scale AI training using multiple GPUs. The platform also incorporates all-flash distributed storage to maximize performance in distributed learning, optimizing the entire cluster as a "single computing unit" ideal for large-scale deep learning tasks.

2. Development of the Proprietary Autonomous Driving AI "TD-1"

Leveraging the power of Gaggle Cluster, Turing has developed their proprietary autonomous driving AI "TD-1" and has initiated road testing. TD-1 is designed for Turing's "Tokyo30" project※1. It utilizes only camera footage to generate a unified model that handles everything from environmental mapping to vehicle and pedestrian recognition to driving operations, all through a single Transformer model.

We also utilize this computing platform for autonomous driving AI and generative AI development. We announced "Terra" (a generative world model for autonomous driving) in August and the "CoVLA Dataset" (a VLA model dataset for autonomous driving) in September, both being the first of their kind in Japan.

These advancements will help develop an autonomous driving system capable of understanding complex situations and making sophisticated judgments, accounting for the physical laws of the real world and interactions between objects. Gaggle Cluster will strengthen the development of multiple models, accelerating Turing's efforts toward achieving fully autonomous driving.

3. Collaboration Among Companies

1)"Gaggle Cluster" for Fully Autonomous Driving AI Development

Turing has been working on Gaggle Cluster since November 2023 to create a fully autonomous driving AI. It is designed for large-scale model training, maximizing the performance of distributed learning.

2)"Gaggle Cluster" Platforms

For this initiative, NTTPC has leveraged its extensive knowledge of GPU interconnect technology for high-speed communication between GPU nodes, storage design, and monitoring/operations as a cloud service provider concerning networks, data centers, and equipment. NTTPC supports "Gaggle Cluster” by providing a GPU computing platform through its "GPU Private Cloud™." (https://www.nttpc.co.jp/lp/gpu_private/), "

3)NDV Investment

NDV, the corporate venture capital (CVC) of the NTT Group, announced in April 2024 its investment in Turing through a managed fund. Recognizing that Turing's goal of achieving fully autonomous driving holds the potential for disruptive innovation in mobility businesses, NDV made the investment to foster short-term collaboration with the DOCOMO Group and to create new value in the long term through a sustained partnership between the two companies.

4. About the Companies

About Turing Inc.

Turing is a startup dedicated to developing fully autonomous driving technology. The company is creating an End-to-End (E2E) autonomous driving system where an AI makes all driving decisions using data obtained solely from cameras.

About NTT PC Communications Incorporated

NTTPC is an expert in ICT services for small and medium-sized enterprises within the NTT DOCOMO Group, offering a variety of services at easily implementable prices. The company is engaged in AI-related businesses, including GPU platform construction, networks, cloud, and data center operations.

About NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc

As the corporate venture capital (CVC) of the NTT Group, NDV serves as a bridge between startups both domestically and internationally, providing support for startup investments and co-creation initiatives.
